It took me a little while. But I finally found it. Yes, I found someone who dared to strongly criticize the WP Rocket extension. What a nerve!

Review of WP Rocket
In short, this reader of an American site specialized in WordPress, says that this extension has broken his site, that it is good to throw away, and that it should not be used.

A little angry, the guy. His opinion is surprising, because it is rare.

Look for information on this plugin that speeds up your WordPress (rocket means rocket), and you will understand.

The vast majority of people who use it are overwhelmed with overwhelming comments about it.

It would even be “recognized as the most powerful cache plugin by WordPress experts”, as indicated on the home page of their site.

In this article, I suggest you discover if WP Rocket really deserves all the praise we give it.

In particular, I will detail how to install it, how to configure it, its impact on your site’s performance, and its strengths and weaknesses.

WP Rocket is a premium (paid) plugin that speeds up the loading of your website pages “in a few clicks”, and “without any need to code”, as indicated on the solution’s website.

More technically, it is a cache plugin. Caching is a system that consists in keeping in memory the pages of your site already loaded, so that you can offer them to your visitors more quickly, afterwards.

In summary, WP Rocket explains that it acts on two types of caches:

Browser cache: directives allow the browser to cache the static resources of the site (CSS files, images, and JavaScript).
the server cache: the extension creates a static HTML page to avoid any PHP processing.
Result: this (normally) improves the loading time of your site.

Understand? If WP Rocket presents itself as a cache plugin, it is actually much more than that.

It also has multiple options to boost the performance of your site, globally: delayed loading of images and JavaScript, minification of HTML code, minification and concatenation of CSS and JavaScript files etc. I will explain all this in more detail later.

Let’s rewind all this to understand its genesis. It all started in 2013.

At the time, its creators were frustrated by the availability of cache plugins on the market. And they noted: “We found that the user experience was not optimal. There are a multitude of options and the configuration takes a lot of time, even for an experienced user.”

To overcome this problem, they create their own solution. Today, WP Rocket boasts nearly 670,000 sites optimized by their plugin, and nearly 90,000 satisfied customers.

Why should you care about the performance of your site?
Using a cache plugin is strongly recommended if you want to try to improve the performance of your site.

The official documentation of WordPress, Codex, recommends it in its section dedicated to the optimization of the CMS.

And, frankly, this is not to be taken lightly for 3 main reasons.

First, the loading speed of your site has an impact on your SEO.

Since July 2018, Google has been taking into account the speed of a site on mobile phones to position it in its search results.

Even if it only concerns very slow sites, it is never too late to worry about it.

In addition, a site that loads quickly makes it easier for search engines to index.

Secondly, a slow site has disastrous consequences for the user experience. For example, nearly one in two people (40%) leave a website if it takes more than 3 seconds to load.

Tercio, please note that among online shoppers, 67% declare the slowness of the site as the main reason for abandoning the shopping cart.
