Why a site is in 1st position

He is not the first one we think!

We have seen in previous articles what factors influence search engine positions, and we have seen that direct visitssignals, the user behaviour and the total number of reference areas are the most important. Although these factors are decisive, it must be noted that the one who fulfils these 3 criteria is almost always in 2nd position when in theory it should be first. It is surprising that the sites that are supposed to be the most optimised end up second when they meet all the factors. This can be explained by the phenomenon of branding. So when the user searches for a brand name, a more relevant but less optimised site will appear on the first position and now you can't even test...

This is true when the user searches for keywords containing a brand name, the brand name domain will appear higher in the search results than Wikipedia or other popular resources.

The data also shows that ranking factors have more influence on the positions of a single URL than on the domain on which it resides. This means that the rankings of a particular page are more sensitive to on-page optimization.in pageThis is a good example of the use of "link building" and other optimisation techniques.

On the other hand, when you want to position yourself on a query it is theoretically always possible to do so, so obviously it is useless to try to position yourself on ultra-competitive searches because on the one hand it would be a waste of time and on the other hand there are much more efficient ways to pick up a lot of traffic on competitive subjects while being much more targeted. This is where the long tail strategy comes in as mentioned above. We will therefore try to position ourselves on phrases or chains of words rather than on a particular word. The SEO strategy will therefore consist of producing a lot of content on a lot of long tail keywords, revolving around our subject, in order to pick up a traffic that is theoretically weaker than for a competitive keyword but in reality more consequent because we will cast a wide net while being more targeted.

If you are interested in the subject and want to know more I invite you to have a look at the Training of Walid Gabteni (SEO World Champion 2017), Frédéric Zibette and Fabien Lorenzi.

This course is a real good introduction to SEO that you won't find anywhere else. It is based on real cases and is not theoretical or very technical.
