It is possible to use TranslatePress for free, but there will be some restrictions.
- On the SEO side, the free version will not allow the translation of meta descriptions, so that's not good enough.
- You will only have access to one additional language
- Machine translation is not available in the free version
- There is no automatic redirection to the visitor's language either
- No menu for each language and no translator account.
As you can see, the free version will be useful if you are too hot to type all the translations by hand or if it is a very small showcase site.
But the real interest of this plugin lies in the paid version...

So TranslatePress offers 3 rates for its paid version.
- The Personal version for 1 site only at 79€ per year but you don't have access to the redirection according to the user's language, nor the Deepl translation... Frankly, it's a shame.
- The Business version allows access to all the interesting features for 139€ per year but limited to 3 sites...
- And finally the Developer version which allows you to have all the functions on an unlimited number of sites for 199€ per year!
Clearly, the Developer version is the most profitable if you have more than 3 websites to translate!

Thus, you will be able to translate an entire website in automatic mode thanks to the Deepl API or the Google API, I recommend Deepl!

Here I will give you some setting tips.
First you will need to insert your License Key and activate it as shown in the image below:

Then go to the "Modules" section to activate the SEO Pack, this is very important to also translate the Slug of your Urls into Automatic:
Then go to the "Advanced" section and scroll down to Miscellaneous options and tick Automatically translate URL identifiers, this will allow you, thanks to the SEO Pack you have just activated, to automatically translate the Slugs in your URLs into the correct language:

Now you can start the automatic translation of your site!
Go to the automatic translation section and click on yes, then check Deepl if you have the Deepl API in Free or Paid mode (in my case I use the Pro version of the Deepl API) then save!

Be patient though, as the translation may take a little while, so let it run for at least 24 hours.

Should you invest in the paid version of TranslatePress?
To be transparent, I have seen an increase in traffic of around 30% since I installed this plugin which will allow you to translate your site into 220 languages.
I'm happy with the languages you saw in the screenshot earlier and it's already working fine in Deepl translation.
So yes, it's clearly worth investing in TranslatePress and especially in the Developer version if you have more than 3 sites!
